Welcome...
Our beliefs as to who we are, our place in society and what we are capable of determine our actions and reactions to life. These beliefs have been instilled in us, unintentionally, by our culture, parents, peer groups and educators. Most deep rooted beliefs are programmed before the age of five and others during times of suspension of consciousness such as when we are hurt or emotional. At these times anything said is taken by the subconscious mind as fact and internalised as our reality

These beliefs about ourselves determine what we tell ourselves we can achieve and thus the actions we are prepared to take towards our goals. Our internal beliefs also affect our health and wellbeing as well as our prognosis.

Our current situation in life, including our social, economic and health status, is directly determined by our beliefs. If you believe you can or you believe you can’t your are right

To explain how we can approach and eradicate these beliefs I will use an approach called Transactional Analysis (TA). In the following the capitalization of Child, Parent and Adult refers to specific internal states and not to actual child, parent and adult individuals.

In TA the first part of our personality to develop is the Child, this is the part of our being that demands immediate gratification and is constantly working towards survival.

The next part of our being that develops is the Parent, this being the part that learns the mores of our parents and other significant adults in our growing up. The Parent internalises the instructions of our parents and feeds the commands back to the Child to ensure parent approval and thus ensure survival.

The final part of our personality to develop is the Adult. The Adult develops as we learn from our own experiences and receive information from the wider society. The Adult can evaluate input and modify behaviour accordingly. The Adult can only function fully when the Parent and Child are satisfied that the Adult is acting in their best interest.

Our beliefs are so deeply rooted that they are accepted as self evident and the Adult is not even aware that they exist as beliefs but accepts them as revealed truth

By examining our deep seated beliefs and showing the Parent how the said belief was valid at the time it was imprinted and the child how the belief is actually detrimental to the desired development of the individual the Adult can assist the Parent and Child in modifying or eradicating the belief and adopting a belief that is more functional in the individuals current situation
